Siapa Susu Sejat?

The story began when a boy was born to a new wed couple who live in Sg. Maong, Batu 3, Kuching Sarawak, on October 1986… Hey! That was me laa. Since when I was a young boy, I’d always wondered how to be macho; as cool as my father who works as a policeman. Do I’ve to become a policeman too, or is it because of that pair of sunglasses?

Food, food and food. In order to sustain our life, we have to eat. But not many realize that eating is also an art. Since a little kid, my parents always pampered me with food, and I’m glad. It shows that they love me and they wanted me to become a MAN. This was taken during my one year old anniversary. I think the cake was mom’s homemade. Thanks mom!

I loved to mess with my mom’s stuffs. When I played around with her cotton buds, she didn’t scold me, but instead she grabbed her camera and……..

Then I eventually ate the cotton buds! (Ok, this is out of the question, not a proper diet though)

I also used to enjoy toys like other boys. This three-wheel-bikes was among the popular toys at that time… let’s burn some calorie!

This was taken when I was 8 (or 9) years old, in Police barrack near King Edward primary school in Taiping. Now, the place had already been tore down and being replaced with the new Police headquarters, expected to be completed near 2012. Cantik tak bukit larut kat belakang kitorang?


Then there came two little buggers who used to ruin my life stuffs (actually there are three of them, but the last bugger came somewhere in year 2000). Photo above was taken between 1995-1996. Even though it was my brother’s birthday, but I was the one who totally indulged with the cake… imagine the shining cream on top, and it’s sweet taste (ye laa, takkan rasa masam pulak…)


This was taken when I was in form 5 – had been gaining some weight due to my several years of unhealthy lifestyle. This snapshot was from our trip at Bukit Larut (Maxwell Hill), Taiping, but surprisingly I managed to climb up until the peak point, but guess what happened during that night and the next morning?

The story continues when I furthered my study in the US… indeed the fast food outlet is everywhere…

MySA (Malaysian students) picnic was a must, at least once in a quarter…

…and we even organized our own party if it’s too cold outside..An order of X-Large pizza was also a must and can be made either thru phone or online. Restaurant like Papa John guarantees you a fast delivery right till in front of your doorstep. Sungguh mudah! (Hey, but the box looks like it came from Domino’s laa..)

This is my dirty little secret that not everybody knew. It was the time when my weight reached it’s peak – 110kg. I spent almost a hundred bucks (roughly RM350) just to buy this piece of chemicals. I now realize that this is an unnatural way to lose weight, and even not 100% promising. But during that time, I was desperately looking to lose some weight in a short period of time without controlling my diet and exercise. YES, I was stupid enough to be fooled by those ‘inspiring’ commercial break on TV.

No body wants to look fat and unhealthy. But I’m not asking you out there to sacrifice your favorite food, just for the sake of being healthy. Yes, you can have those ‘babies’ in your meal but always keep in mind to watch their ‘quantity’. I was once punished because I neglected this important principal since my childhood. I trained my self, really hard, and I lost almost 20kg during MySa’s dinner in Spring 2009 (my weight was about 90kg, see the difference?). Yet, when I came back to Malaysia, I still continued my weight loss program until…

…I lost 40kg in just 10 months.

  1. may i know what r the course u took when u further your study at US? u have really great fantastic knowledge about food nutrition, human physical n biological ,guides to medicine n health and many more. it so impress n awesome!

    • I was majoring in Biotechnology, but those info regarding food nutrition and human physiology were obtained from my external readings, even though some of the topic might related to some of the courses i learnt, like human metabolism in Biochemistry.

        • supplemen hanya membantu jika kita berdisiplin dengan program.. patuh pada diet dan senaman yang dilakukan.. jangan pula kita amik berbagai-bagai supplemen, tapi malam2 makan mee goreng kat restoran mamak pula :p

      masih tahap 74, 75, tapi if i exercise i dont look that fat but weight the same…

    nak try hantar email sebenarnya, tapi takder ruangan untuk contact dan tak jumpa plaks email, so tulis kat sini jer, nak tanya pasal yang list FCL tuh, kalau nak guna info dalam tuh untuk kegunaan sistem boleh ke erk? sistem ni untuk kegunaan orang ramai gak, percuma jer, supaya dorang boleh pantau jumlah pengambilan kalori seharian lebih mudah.

    Saya nak minta pendapat…saya telah memulakan program diet dengan pengambilan kalori 1000 per day tanpa melakukan senaman. Minggu pertama berat badan saya turun hampir 2 kilo dan sekarang turun lagi…bolehkan saya hanya berdiet sahaja….

    • salam, boleh, tapi kesannya tak signifikan.. kalau masukkan senaman, lagi cepat berat tu akan turun, berkali-kali ganda cepatnya dan bersifat jangka masa panjang.. ;)

    saya ada 1 soalan..saya seorang yang sangat tinggi kadar metabolisma sebab saya kerap bersukan, boleh dikatakan setiap hari saya bersukan..badan saya agak kurus…soalannya, macamna cara nak naikkan berat badan kalau keadaan saya yang macam ni dan pada masa yang sama saya nak ‘toughkan’ body saya dengan aktiviti gym..boleh kamu bagitaw saya blog yang ada tutOr tentang aktiviti gym..

  10. assalamualaikum encik SS saya ada pertanyaan di forum diskus kat fb..confuse dgn pengambilan kalori dalam harian..saya seorang yg aktif bersenam hampir setiap hari ke gym.tapi bab aturan menu makanan yg kurang arif.kdg2 sy makan just protein shj.

    • ada rujuk ruangan ‘kelas kalori’ dengan entri ‘apa yang saya patut makan pada hari biasa’ tu tak? saya ada ceritakan bagaimana nak spread/prepare meal yang sihat di sana.. :)

    hi joy, saya memang betul2 nekad menguruskan badan,saya bermula bln 3 bersukasuki je, berat sy turun daripada 92 kg ke 86kg tanpa saya sedari bila sy amik nasi dlm portion yg sederhana..n bila sy sedar bila kita mula pandai menjaga pemakanan dan mkn dgn cara yg sihat, berat kt akan turun perlahan2..so sy amik keputusan utk berdiet bersungguh mulai bln 9..

    pagi – 1cups oat cair + susu, 2 keping roti + 1sudu tuna
    minum pg- 1genggam kekacang
    lunch -1/2 pinggan sayur, ikan seekor/ayam seketul, buah2an
    minum ptg- 1genggam kekacang/ biskut oat
    mkn mlm – sup sayur hijau, ikan/ayam dan buah2an

    ok ke pengambilan makanan saya??mohon pendapat daripada joy.

    • salam lily, berdasarkan amatan saya, diet lily ni ada potongan karbo terutama dari sumber nasi. sekiranya diet tersebut tidak memudaratkan (maksudnya tak pening kepala, rasa lesu dan tak mampu untuk bersenam), maka saya syorkan cuba masukkan sumber nasi. tapi kalau awak rasa ok sahaja dengan diet ni, maka tak apa, boleh diteruskan.. cuma saya nak tahu, berapa jumlah kalori secara keseluruhan? ada buat kira-kira tak?

  13. SS..kak umoq 44 thn. berat 85kg. cam ne eh na turunkan lagi berat badan ni? bagi la nasihat yang banyak kat kak nie… setakat nie kak tak de darah tinggi n kencing manis.

    • kurangkan makanan yang mengandungi gula ringkas kak, biskut2, air manis, semua tu kurangkan, atau lebih baik tolak tepi. Ambil sekali sekala saja bila betul2 teringin (2 minggu sekali mungkin). Dalam masa yang sama, kena tahu berapa kalori dalam satu2 makanan supaya kita sentiasa berwaspada dengan makanan yang hendak di ambil… baru boleh agak berapa sebenarnya yang kita perlukan, bukan dengan cara main bedal selagi perut belum berasa kenyang. ;)

    macamana nak bakar kalori semaksimum mungkin dalam masa 40 min?
    saya join gym kat sebuah hotel next to my opis, so ada masa dalam 1 hour je waktu lunch utk ber gym..
    selalunya saya buat stepper dalam 20 min, cycling dlm 20 min, pastu weight lifting dlm 10 min.. ok tak?

    nak tanya, untuk yang mengalami ‘slipped disc’, ada tak senaman yang boleh kita buat utk turunkan berat badan. dah desperate gile kena turunkan berat badan sebab kesian kat saraf.. huhu.. T_T

    • oh, yang ini saya tak berani nak beri advice sebab sakit juga tu kalau ada slipped disc. sebaiknya, jumpa doktor atau lebih jumpa pakar fisio untuk mengatasi/merawat kembali slipped disc berkenaan.

    sedikit cerita mengenai sy.
    starting weight at 86kg year 2005.
    ms tu time2 blaja diploma. terikut2 kwn sy try duramine.
    kurus dlm bpe bln je. drop to 70kg.
    pastu start semula diet early this year (75kg) dgn kurang kan mkn n senaman. dlm 6 bln cmtu sy loss 10kg to 65kg. no ubat, just jaga mkn n senaman (jog,jillian micheal video).

    masalah sy…. :(
    bdn sy x fit, lembik. blh dikatakan menggeleber la juga.dah mcm org tua. sy benci dgn bdn sy sendiri
    malu tp benar. apa yg sy perlu buat ss?
    pls tlg sy. blh guide sy? cr pemakanan (details of menu kalau blh). cr exercise yg btl.

  23. amazing story bro, i myself also used to be fat, with 83kg the heaviest, then masuk matric homesick trun jadi 78kg… then only i woke up and wanted to do something with my fat body, i started dengan makan nasi weekend saja, minum byk air 3 liter sehari ,keep a food journal, berat jadi 68kg, then baru start exercising, sampai 64kg, baru start jog, tapi berat tak trun dah sampai la gatal try sejenis jamu ni, berat trun jadi 58 kg, bila dah berenti plus tak jog n exercise, naik balik 68kg, now berusaha trun blk..and will make ur website as my guides and reference and reminder..

    akak neh stat berat badan back in 2002, 3 months after i took implanon(contraceptive). tetiap bulan naik 3-5 kg….ultimately in 2003…took it out…my weight is ranging from 88 to 92 respectively….

    uwaa….i bet this had to do with my hormon….any advise? any slimming devise that i took…will upgrade my weight at least 2 kg…..

    Akk nak tny. Brat hbis sek men cuma 40-42kg. X prnh lari dr tu wlp mmg x aktif brsenam. Cuma buat krj2 umah je.Mgk masa tu muda lagi sbb metb tggi. Skrg dah 85kg. Umur dah 46 dn tiggi dekat 5kk. Mmg dah obb.
    Anak akk yg sulung tigk 1 ketggian 168cm dgn berat 83kg. Dua org yg lain x ada masalah berat. Agaknya dia ikut aruah ayahnya. Aruah suami mempunyai berat 108kg. Brp spatutnya berat ideal anak akk.
    Alhamdulillah buat masa ni x ada pykit drh tigg atu k manis.
    Brp klo yg pula akk ambil seharian dn sekiranya akk berlari perlahan setiap hari waktu pagi keliling rumah, bleh tak dlm stgh jam. Yg ni akk br nak buat sbb ada keinginan. Dah rasa tak selesa berat badn ni.
    Lagi satu, mcm mana nak buat diet makanan anak saya. Brp klori spatutnya dia ambil. Brp gram nasi dia kena makn untuk sehari. Bleh tak adek ss tulis contoh menu utk satu hari. Dia cuma ada ada masa ari jumaat dn sabtu je sbb x sek. Hari sek kol 7br balik sbb ada sek agama. Jadi mmg x bleh jogging cuma jumaat sabtu je. Bleh tak dia buat skipping je. Ini utk brp lama. Dia mmg susah nak brjogging atau skipping. Penat dia kata. Tapi tak ada masalah klu menugg basikal. Akak dn anak kena buat juga utk jaga kesihatan. Hrp adek ss dpt membantu. Tksih…..
